WENDRON United FC have announced their intention to start a women's football team.

Although the intention is to join the Cornwall Women's League in the future, the club is initially looking to gauge interest by holding training sessions and friendly matches.

All abilities are welcome and no previous experience is needed, with the focus on development and enjoyment.

Anyone who is interested in joining the team, either as a player or to join the coaching/management team, can contact Emma Langton on 07710 466895.

The Dron is one of only two Cornish clubs - alongside Torpoint Athletic - to have a senior men's team in each of the top four levels of football in the county, while the club runs several mixed teams in the Kernow Youth League.

The news comes days after Helston Athletic announced the reformation of their women's team after a one-year hiatus.

It means there will be five women's teams in the area next season, with Wendron and Helston joining the existing teams at Penryn, Porthleven and RNAS Culdrose.
