FALMOUTH Town heralded the arrival of two familiar faces last week, with Kirk Davies and Jack Bowyer returning to the club after two spells of very different length away from Bickland Park.

While right-back Davies makes his return after more than seven years away, striker Bowyer was a Town player as recently as January.

But with Bowyer missing several games due to work before his eventual departure to St Austell earlier this year, it feels more like a completely new signing.

Bowyer’s new strike partner TJ Walter only signed for the club from Wendron United in March and managed to get one game in before the season was abruptly suspended, scoring from the spot on his debut in a 5-0 win at home to Sticker.

He will still feel like a completely fresh signing by the time football resumes.

The same goes for fellow striker Rob Wearne, whose sole appearance last season came in the same match. Wearne came off the bench in the second half to make only this third appearance in two years after suffering successive cruciate ligament injuries.

While it will take time for him to get up to speed in terms of match fitness, this enforced layoff will at least give him the time to fully recover and get used to having a ball at his feet again.

But it doesn’t end there. You could also argue that Davies’ defensive colleague David Blizzard could be seen as another new signing.

The right-back has played regularly for Town since joining from Penryn Athletic in 2017 but missed the last four months of the 2019/20 campaign due to being abroad for work.

And first-team manager Andrew Westgarth told me that he expects Blizzard to be available for selection whenever the new season eventually begins.

While none of the quintet are new names, they will all be fresh faces by the time they next step out onto the Bickland Park turf.
