Penryn College’s Year 11 rugby squad lifted the U16 County Schools Cup last Tuesday evening, following a fantastic 17-3 victory over Launceston College, at Hayle RFC.

Hundreds of spectators witnessed both sides play their part in a fantastic contest on an ice-cold evening at Memorial Park, with Penryn producing a memorable second-half comeback, after trailing 3-0 at the interval.

Despite failing to register any points on the scoreboard in the opening half, Penryn put in a gutsy all-round first-half performance, but were thwarted by their opponent's brilliant defensive work after coming agonisingly close to crossing the try line on several occasions.

But several periods of sustained pressure in the second half saw Penryn register three tries to clinch the County Schools Cup in fantastic fashion.

Speaking after the contest, Penryn College Head of PE, Richard Tucker, said: "I'm really proud of the boys - this was a fantastic way for them to conclude their time as part of our rugby teams.

"A huge well done to both sides for providing us with some fantastic entertainment, and a big thank you to Hayle RFC for providing their facilities, and all supporters for making the effort to be a part of the occasion."
