TRURO City dropped down to second in the Southern League Premier South after the White Tigers fell to a frustrating 1-0 defeat to Gosport Borough, writes Cameron Weldon.

An excellent finish from Theo Lewis proved to be enough to give the mid-table hosts all three points in Hampshire despite an onslaught of City pressure.

In a rather lacklustre opening 45 minutes it was Paul Wotton’s men who had the best opportunity. Tyler Harvey played a ball across to Will Swan but the on loan Nottingham Forest striker couldn’t convert thanks to a great close range save.

The home side came close before that through an effort from Michael Elechi but the winger dragged his shot wide of Hamon’s far post.

It took just four minutes into the second half for the home side to get the only goal of the encounter.

Mbayo was shoved off the ball by Matt Patterson who held the ball up well before he squared the ball across to Lewis who slotted into the bottom corner past a helpless James Hamon.

City then saw a number of opportunities go begging. Austen Booth fired a shot high over the bar while club captain Jamie Richards, who celebrated his 200th appearance last week, headed a Will Dean cross wide of the target.

Will Swan then had two good chances well blocked as the home side stayed strong despite a huge amount of Truro pressure.

City top goal scorer Tyler Harvey then saw a half volley cleared away while Harlain Mbayo couldn’t divert the former Plymouth Argyle strikers cross goals wards.

Both Ryan Law and Niall Thompson were causing problems for the Boro’s backline but still couldn’t test the keeper.

Will Swan had a great chance to earn City a deserved point in added time but the young forward sliced his shot wide as the home side claimed all three points at Privett Park.

With a win for title rivals Chesham, Truro now drop down to second, two points behind the new leaders with a game in hand.

They now have a week to recover before they hit the road once again as they travel to Poole Town next Saturday.

Truro: Hamon, Thompson, Law, Mbayo, Gafaiti (Davis 74), Richards (C), Dean, Garside (Battle 59), Rooney (Booth 45), Swan, Harvey.
