FALMOUTH Town secured their place in the quarter-finals of the Walter C Parson League Cup with a 4-2 win at home to Torridgeside.

David Broglino gave the majority of the near-700 crowd at Bickland Park something to cheer with two first-half goals, only for Tyler Evansloude to halve the deficit on the stroke of half-time.

But two further strikes from Luke Barner made sure of a quarter-final match-up against St Blazey on February 25, despite a late goal from Nick Glover.

A slow start to the game, which was delayed by 15 minutes after the Devon side were stuck in traffic, burst into life in the 17th minute when Broglino tried his luck from outside the box, with his chipped effort and flying over goalkeeper Will Davis and into the net.

Martyn Duff came close with an effort soon after before twice teeing up Luke Brabyn, who fired wide on both occasions.

Harry Taffs earned T-Side's first shot of the game on the half-hour, blazing over from 15 yards, before Davis picked up a yellow for fouling Brabyn outside his box.

But the second goal came five minutes before the break when Barner was felled just inside the box, with Broglino stepping up to drive the resulting spot-kick home and double the 2018 winners' lead.

But the two-goal lasted all of five minutes, with Evansloude meeting a diagonal ball and firing it past Ryan Barnes from ten yards with the final action of the half.

The teams traded chances in the first part of the second half, with Barner, Sam Pickup and Brabyn all missing chances for the home side, while Barnes had to tip Rory Paine's free kick away from the top corner before Shaun Copp forced a save from the home 'keeper.

But Town struck the crucial blow in the 66th minute, with Ollie Moody crossing to Barner, making his first start since November 16, who planted a superb diving header past Davis from ten yards.

The same man was on hand to wrap up the tie six minutes later, shrugging off the last defender to meet a pass and fire it past Davis.

T-Side had late hope in the 82nd minute when Glover's hopeful cross deceived Barnes and dropped inside the far post, but Town did enough to see out the tie in the final few minutes.
