Hayes & Yeading United 0, Truro City 1

A stunning Luke Jephcott goal proved to be enough for Truro City to secure all three points in a 0-1 win at Hayes & Yeading United to increase their lead at the top to four points, writes Cameron Weldon.

The White Tigers who were without top goal scorer Tyler Harvey and skipper Jamie Richards but that didn’t stop their fine form continuing in London.

Paul Wotton’s men came the traps the quicker and had a number of early chances. Alex Battle, who’s scored two goals in as many games played the ball across to Luke Jephcott who sliced his shot over the bar from close range with just six minutes played.

Niall Thompson then rattled the near post before Battle saw a shot knocked onto the cross bar following a great save from the keeper.

Jephcott quickly made up for his previous miss as he opened the scoring in incredible fashion. The on loan Plymouth Argyle striker fired a shot high into the top corner leaving the keeper no chance to give Truro the deserved lead.

Alex Battle thought he had doubled the visitors lead just before the break as he rounded the keeper and slotted home but he was deemed to have handled the ball so the goal was disallowed.

Into the second half we saw more efforts go wide. Battle saw a free kick knocked over the bar for a corner while Thompson had two shots saved by the keeper as we looked for a second.

Hamon was then forced into a good stop as he pushed a shot onto the post before the hosts were reduced to ten men when Rowe was sent his marching orders for gross misconduct in the aftermath of the chance.

City had to weather the storm a little bit come the end but they managed to hold on to claim another vital three points as Truro move four points clear at the top of the league, and increase their winning streak to five games.

Truro’s scheduled game on Tuesday away to Salisbury has been postponed due to a replay involving the home side so they are next in action on Saturday as they welcome Yate Town to Treyew Road. Kick-off is at 3pm.
