TRURO City are out of the FA Trophy after a disappointing 3-1 away defeat to Blackfield & Langley in the First Round Qualifying Replay, writes Cameron Weldon.

Goals from Hisham Kasimu and Lerone Plummer put the home side in control. Tyler Harvey did manage to pull one back for the White Tigers late on only for Shaquille Gwengwe to add a third in added time.

After having the original game postponed twice due to the weather, the game did eventually take place on Tuesday night at Treyew Road where it finished in a 1-1 draw, meaning a replay in Hampshire was required.

At a very wet Gang Warily stadium it was the home side that came out of the traps the faster. James Hamon had to be alert inside the opening four minutes as Kasimu was played through but stopped well by the City keeper.

The Watersiders’s early dominance was soon rewarded as the danger man Kasimu cut inside City skipper Jamie Richards before firing past a helpless Hamon to break the deadlock.

Truro did manage to get into the game as the first half drew to a close. Niall Thompson was a constant threat on the right-hand side while Tyler Harvey saw two headers go wide of the mark.

Truro needed a response going into the second half but there was little sign of that happening. The home side started like the started the first and it wasn’t long before they doubled their lead. A fantastic solo run and finish from Lerone Plummer put the hosts in complete control.

Paul Wotton’s men looked to try and claw the game back. Thompson saw a shot blocked while substitute Alex Battle curled an effort just over the bar.

With the clock ticking, City did eventually get one back. Tyler Harvey hammered a shot into the top corner with a powerful effort as Truro looked to try and send the game to extra time.

Although extra time wouldn’t be necessary as Blackfield charged up the pitch on the counter attack and went one and one with Hamon resulting in Shaquille Gwengwe tapping home and securing his sides place in the next round.

Truro now turn their attention back to their Southern League title challenge as they welcome Hartley Wintney to Treyew Road next Saturday before returning to Blackfield & Langley in a fortnights time.

Truro: Hamon, Thompson, Davis, Ward, Richards (c) (Mbayo 58), Booth, Dean, Garside, D Rooney, Harvey, Yetton (Battle 58).
