WENDRON United eventually secured victory over a stubborn Sticker side, ending their run of four games without a win in the process.

TJ Walter put the dominant hosts two goals up against the South West Peninsula League Premier West's bottom side by the half hour, only for Sam Began to halve the deficit soon after.

Scott Palmer restored the two-goal lead from the spot early in the second half but Tom Tallis pulled another back for the visitors, who were agonisingly denied an equaliser in injury-time, with their effort controversially deemed not to have crossed the line.

Wendron were keen to get up and running from the off, with Dan Quirke sending an early attempt on Ethan Elwell's goal.

The visitors' goal was living a charmed life early on, with Joe Chapman firing a shot against the base of the far post before Jack Stocker turned Hayden Fuller's cross over the bar from five yards.

But the hosts got their noses in front in the 15th minute as Walter played a short corner, before receiving the return pass and arrowing a shot into the bottom corner from the right flank.

The hosts were hunting a quick second with Stocker, Ben Ringrose and Reece Carroll all taking pot-shots at goal, before Joel Cockings headed over the crossbar with Sticker's first attempt of the game.

A second goal would be Ben Ringrose's lobbed ball finds Walter on the left, who races into the box and drives in from a tight angle.

But Sticker halved the deficit with their first shot on target barely three minutes later, with Began looping a shot into the net following a set piece.

That goal buoyed the visitors and they dominated the next five minutes, and saw a good chance to level the scores go by following a penalty box scramble, with the Dron eventually clearing their lines.

Walter was inches away from completing his hat-trick shortly before the break racing to meet a through ball and driving a shot just past the opposite bottom corner.

But it took fewer than three second-half minutes for Wendron to restore their two-goal advantage, with Palmer doing so from the spot after Walter was brought down.

Walter was still searching for his treble and saw another good chance fly agonisingly wide, with his first-time shot whizzing past the bottom right corner from the edge of the box.

The proved crucial as Sticker cut the deficit to a single goal once again midway through the half. The impressive Derrick Lucas surged down the right flank and laid the ball on a plate for Tallis to tap in at the back post.

Wendron looked to try and kill the game off with a fourth but it was Sticker who came closest, with Began twice forcing saves from Stedman.

The hosts' best chance of a fourth came with five minutes of the 90 remaining, with Finn Robinson having two bites of the cherry at the near post but could not squeeze either past Elwell, before laying off the rebound to Walter, whose shot was blocked.

Sticker were within millimetres of levelling in the first minute of injury time, with Lucas' cross being met by the head of substitute Ashley Winkworth at the back post. Stedman got a crucial finger to the ball, which bounced on the line before being cleared away, despite protests from the visitors.
