MARK Goldsworthy scored a hat-trick as Helston Athletic recorded a four-goal victory at Godolphin Atlantic (Newquay) in the South West Peninsula League Premier West on Saturday – despite the game being goalless with just ten minutes to play.

The Blues were left frustrated in their attempts to earn a tenth consecutive win in all competitions, with Phil Cattran striking the crossbar and Goldsworthy having another cleared off the line in just two of a host of Blues chances, while Kai Cornish and Hugh Howlett both had goals disallowed for offside.

But they finally got the breakthrough with ten minutes to go, with Matt Bye going on a superb run before crossing for top-scorer Mark Goldsworthy to fire in his 13th of the season.

The second arrived two minutes later when Neil Slateford teed up Goldsworthy to add his second, with the former making it three with a low drive a minute later.

There was time for Cattran to hit the post before Goldsworthy scored his third of the game and 15th of the campaign with a fine finish.

The hosts missed the chance to pull one back from the spot in injury-time, but Jason Robertson saved Lee Paxton's kick before recovering to stop the follow-up as well.

Jack Bowyer scored a hat-trick for the second home game in a row as Falmouth Town put six goals past Liskeard Athletic in their match at Bickland Park.

Jack Podmore had put the Blues in front early on, but two goals from Bowyer and a first goal in a Falmouth shirt from Luke Barner gave Town a two-goal lead at the break.

Bowyer wrapped up his hat-trick midway through the half before Luke Brabyn and Matt Buchan completed the rout, with Bentley Alcantara pulling one back for Liskeard with three minutes to play.

It could have been more, with Martyn Duff and Matt Buchan both having goals ruled out for narrow offside calls while the latter missed a host of chances before finally getting his goal late on.

Ten-man Wendron United bowed out of the Walter C Parson League Cup after coming out on the wrong side of a nine-goal thriller at Dobwalls, losing 6-3 after extra-time in the first-round tie at Lantoom Park.

The Dron's day started poorly with captain Scott Palmer seeing red for a last-man foul after a coming-together with a Dobwalls forward, but despite the disadvantage they led at the break through TJ Walter, who fired in following a goalmouth scramble.

The hosts were on terms in the second half when a Wendron goal kick was overruled to be a corner, from which the hosts headed home.

Dobwalls edged in front a few minutes later but the Dron levelled from the spot when Walter was brought down, with the same man stepping up to score.

Against the odds, the ten men moved in front with eight minutes to play when Finn Robinson cut in from the right and fired under the 'keeper.

But they were denied a superb win with three minutes to go when the hosts converted following a quick break to send the game to extra-time.

The extra 30 minutes was too much for the ten men, with Dobwalls netting twice in two minutes of the first half of extra-time, before adding a sixth on the break early in the second half to secure their place in the next round.

But Porthleven safely booked their passage into the second round after winning 3-1 at Penzance on Friday night. Dan Stidwell gave Port a half-time lead with a sublime finish into the top corner from the opposite corner of the box.

Anton Oliver levelled for the home side midway through the second half after a good run and cross from Jacob Cleverley, only for substitute George Molcher to restore the away side's advantage soon after.

The Magpies tried to find an equaliser but Molcher added a fine curled finish into the top corner of his own in injury-time to secure the win for the Fishermen, who will now visit Mousehole in the second round on Friday, October 25.
