Helston strolled to a nine-wicket victory in their County Division 1 match at home to Gorran.

The home side bowled out their opponents for just 71 in the 22nd over before meeting their target after just one wicket and 12.4 overs.

Helston are now up to fourth in the division, although there is a considerable 61-point gap between themselves and the top three of Camborne, Redruth seconds and Beacon.

Gorran’s innings started poorly with the loss of opener Matthew House for a duck off two balls, with fellow opener Jacob Lakeman managing four before he was also dismissed.

Rhys Daniel departed having score three runs as Gorran reached 11-3, but their hopes were given a boost thanks to a 53-run stand between James Rennie and Andrew Grant before the former was caught by Karl Leathley on 19.

Grant went six better but Joe Semple was also dismissed for a duck, with Harry Blamey and Jamie Tabb adding two and five respectively.

The final two wickets emphasised the one-sidedness of the innings, with Andrew Constantine and Simon Dixon both falling for golden ducks as Gorran were dismissed for 71.

Steve Jenkin led with the ball, claiming four wickets for the loss of just seven runs, with Dario Cumberbatch and Bradley Bury taking two wickets apiece.

Helston’s reply was short and sweet, with opening pair Will Jenkin and Karl Leathley reaching 69 before Jenkin (30) was bowled by Rhys Daniel.

Leathley managed 34 with Stephen Wiseman contributing one as the pair got the hosts over the line with some 37 overs to spare.
