CLIFF Medcraff (gross) and Nick George (nett) clinched the two trophies on a day of keen competition in the Windwhistle Seniors Championship.

Sunny conditions attracted a field of 39 players in what is considered be the most prestigeous meeting of the year.

George Willerton appeared to have both trophies sewn up, but hit two balls out of bounds on the 17th hole, relegating him to seventh place.

This left the gate open for Nick George and Cliff Medcraff to battle it out over the closing holes, closely followed by Brian McCarthy, Alan Davis and captain John Pearce.

George finished with the best nett score, beating Medcraff by one shot, although the latter posted the best gross score. Consequently, George retains the cup for the best nett score, having won it last year. The nett score of 69 recorded by Cliff Medcraff won him the runner up place as well as the trophy for the best gross.
