TAUNTON Vale Hockey Club’s men’s 1st XI maintained their scoring form with a 5-1 victory away to Llanishen in Premier 2 of the West of England and South Wales Hockey League, this week in 2001.

Having scored eight goals the week before, Vale had to settle for five this time around, with Mark House, Dave Tarr (2), Paul Langford and Jon Wall on target.

Captain Wayne Milton was voted man of the match.

That week also saw Vale’s 2nd XI defeat North Devon 1-0, with Sheikh Sultan scoring the only goal of the game, while the 3rds drew 0-0 with Taunton Civil Service - largely thanks to an exceptional performance from goalkeeper Darren Troake.

In the first round of Ladies’ Somerset Cup, Taunton A overcame Yeovil & Sherborne 2-0.

Louise Parkinson set up Jo Pope to score the opening goal, and Elaine Gale netted the second, having been assisted by Jill Hansford.
