Falmouth Hockey Club returned to the pitch for match action for the first time since March at the weekend.

Perfect hockey playing conditions were enjoyed at Penryn College for Falmouth's double-header of friendly matches against local rivals Duchy.

The first team game started tentatively on both sides, but Duchy quickly picked up the pace and in the first few minutes, scored an early goal.

But Falmouth hit back and Becky Paisley levelled the game soon after, before Kelly Jefferies turned the game on its head before the break.

Paisley and Clare Hudson both scored in the second half to give Falmouth a 4-1 victory.

Falmouth's second team enjoyed an excellent return to action with a 6-1 win over Duchy seconds.

The first goal for Falmouth came from Amelia Heather after Suzanne Bull hit a hard ball into her to score off a short corner in the first ten minutes.

Team captain Rachel Medd kept up a strong presence in the centre of the pitch distributing the ball well to the forwards and wings, around what seemed like a mass of Duchy players.

Next came a great run from Evelyn Heather all the way down the right wing of the pitch to set up another short corner goal for Falmouth.

Then, Hannah Brixton converted a pass that flew in near the left post to score a brilliant clean goal from an incredible angle.

Towards the end of the first half, Annabelle Bull charged past several Duchy defenders that resulted in an impressive short corner goal from Medd.

With the score at 4-1 at half time, Falmouth were ready to start the second half determined to score again.

They were not disappointed, with substitute Laura Heather managing to get a deflection from Suzanne Bull’s accurate hit for the fifth goal.

The final goal of the match came from Amelia Heather with a slick hit from a superb pass in from sister Evelyn.

  • Falmouth Hockey welcomes all new players and is actively looking for new people to join their teams. They have three adult ladies teams and a junior section.
