VICTORIA Park Bowling Club, Bridgwater, celebrated its 90th anniversary this month, with a ‘scaled down’ celebration event enjoyed by around 30 members.

After a triples competition the club celebrated with a barbecue.

Before cutting the celebration cake, president John Hill said that the club had a great history which current members appreciated and hoped to pass on to future members in years to come.

He said that it was unfortunate that the club had to curtail the grand plans to celebrate the 90th anniversary, having intended to play a match against other local clubs.

Hill added that, despite this, it was good to see some members enjoying themselves and thanked those who had helped organise the day.

Six teams took part in the bowling competition, each playing three triples games.

The winners were Dave Hannaford (two games), Pat Hill, Malcolm Nash and Sue Bartlett (one game) who scored 17 points.

One point behind were Keith Barnard, Mary Cresswell and Paul Edmonds, and in third place (also on 16 points but losing out on shot difference) were Lynn Mead, Colin Gay and Dave Milne.
