Pre-season friendly match
Bridgwater Town 2, Somerton Town 0

Goals at either end of the match from Jack Taylor gave Bridgwater Town a hard-earned pre-season victory over Somerset County League side Somerton Town at Fairfax Park on Tuesday night, writes Kerry Miller.

Robins co-managers Dave Pearse and Karl Baggaley gave starts to George Painter and the returning Mark Armstrong, and within two minutes Adnan Hiroli had found space on the right before crossing for Taylor to neatly tuck the ball home.

Chances came and went at either end, with Rhys Dyer and Jacob Holland sending efforts over the top for the visitors, while Ryan Brereton crashed a free-kick against the bar and Armstrong's cross-shot flashed wide.

Josh Wadham also nodded wide and Sam Towler volleyed just over, but Somerton almost levelled when Joe Wilkinson's shot was parried by home goalkeeper Jake Viney.

Josh Wadham came on and nodded a long cross wide and Sam Towler volleyed just over from close range but Somerton almost levelled when the prolific Joe Wilkinson could not quite finish when Jake Viney parried a drive.

Somerton continued to seek an equaliser, but the hosts were able to exploit the gaps as the game wore on and substitutions affected the flow of the game.

Mike Duffy and Tyne Govier both saw shots saved, and with five minutes to go Taylor moved forward and crashed home a left-footed strike to kill the game.

Bridgwater Town: Jake Viney, Dave Thorne, Fin Wilkinson, George Painter, Tom Ellis, Ollie Morris, Mark Armstrong, Ryan Brereton, Adnan Hiroli, Jack Taylor, Conor Bryant. Subs (all used): Jordan Greenwood, Tyne Govier, Josh Wadham, Sam Towler, Mike Duffy.

This Saturday sees the Robins take a trip to Western League Division 1 side Ashton & Backwell United (3pm), before Bodmin Town come up country on Saturday, August 22 - both games are again being played behind closed doors.
