SOMERSET spinner Dom Bess executed a superb run-out to help England wrap up a series victory over the West Indies at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

The tourists resumed on 10-2, chasing 399, and they succumbed for 129 - handing England a 2-1 series victory, having lost the opening Test in Southampton.

This was the final edition of the Wisden Trophy - contested between England and the West Indies since 1963 - as it is to be replaced by a new trophy named after Sir Vivian Richards and Sir Ian Botham, who both played for Somerset as well as their respective countries.

Stuart Broad opened the day by becoming only the sixth bowler in history to reach 500 Test wickets, and he finished with 4-36, while Chris Woakes claimed 5-50.

Bess did not bowl in the match, but the 23-year-old spinner still made his mark, running out Roston Chase with an excellent direct hit.

He also contributed 18 not out to England's first innings, helping them to 369 all out before the seamers tore into the West Indies' reply.

BESS' Somerset team-mates continue to go well, on the third day of their four-day friendly warm-up match against Gloucestershire.

Somerset posted 427-9 (George Bartlett 80) in reply to Gloucestershire's first innings of 273 all out, then reduced their opponents to 38-4 in Bristol, with Josh Davey taking 2-6.

Play resumes tomorrow at 11am.
