SOMERSET spin bowler Dom Bess has been named in the England team to face the West Indies in the first Test at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton.
The first of five days' play was due to begin at 11am, only for the start to be delayed due to rain, and an early lunch was taken at 12.30pm.
The toss finally took place at 1.30pm, and England opted to bat first, but further wet weather is forecast for this afternoon.
Spinner Bess, 22, will aim to continue his tight bowling displays for England, complementing a seam attack of James Anderson, Jofra Archer and Mark Wood.
Jos Buttler, who was born in Taunton, grew up in Wedmore and played for Somerset between 2009 and 2013, is also named in a side captained by Ben Stokes.
Stokes is standing in for Joe Root, who is absent in order to attend the birth of his second child.
Bess' Somerset team-mates Jack Leach and Craig Overton were named among nine reserves for the match.
England team: Rory Burns, Dom Sibley, Joe Denly, Zak Crawley, Ben Stokes (c), Ollie Pope, Jos Buttler, Dom Bess, Jofra Archer, Mark Wood, James Anderson
