SOMERSET'S Olympic and Paralympic hopefuls have a new date to aim for, with Tokyo 2020 now rescheduled for next year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
It has been confirmed today that the Olympic Games will run from July 23 to August 8, 2021, and the Paralympics from August 24 to September 5 next year.
The event will still be called Tokyo 2020 despite taking place in 2021.
Among the Somerset athletes who could be in line to compete in Tokyo are eventing star Deborah Criddle (Taunton), wheelchair racer Jamie Edwards (Taunton), gymnast Laura Gallagher (Bridgwater), hockey player Maddie Hinch (former King's College student), shooters Abbey and Ed Ling (Nynehead) and wheelchair tennis player Lucy Shuker (Taunton).
