THE Somerset County League season has been terminated, with no promotion or relegation to take place.

This means that Chard Town, Ilminster Town, Middlezoy Rovers and Watchet Town are to remain in the Premier Division for next season, Minehead and Staplegrove in Division 1, Middlezoy Rovers Reserves in Division 2, and Bishops Lydeard Reserves and Combe St Nicholas in Division 3.

It follows yesterday's announcement by the Football Association that Steps 3-6 of the National League system (including the Southern and Western Leagues) had agreed to end their seasons and expunge all league results.

The FA announcement also said that "these decisions will also apply to the leagues and clubs who play at NLS step seven", which includes the County League Premier Division.

On Friday morning Uhlsport Somerset County League general secretary Steve Densley released the following statement:

"The FA has advised that the 2019/20 season for Step 3-7 leagues will be null and void.

"Please be advised that based on this guidance the Somerset County League Committee have made the decision to close the season as from this time.

"The impact of this decision is there will be no promotion or relegation between divisions.

"Additionally, the league cup competitions will not be concluded.

"I am sure that based on the current situation this decision should not come as a great surprise to any of you.

"The committee hope that all of your players and management team are well, and we look forward to seeing you all again very soon, once we have made a decision regarding the AGM and the start of next season."
