South West Counties Youth League
Gary Else League Cup
Bridgwater Town/Team BTC 3, Wimborne Town 2
BRIDGWATER Town/Bridgwater & Taunton College’s Under-18s have a cup final to look forward, after Luke Manley’s winning goal took them past Wimborne Town.
The hosts edged the early stages of this semi-final and went ahead when Callum Watts broke clear and beat the advancing goalkeeper.
Bridgwater’s second goal owed a lot to Harry Durrant, who drove up the line and delivered a superb pass for Harry Scott to steer home.
It was 2-1 at half-time, though, as the hosts failed to fully clear a free-kick and Wimborne capitalised.
The visitors were happy to sit back, soak up pressure and strike on the counter-attack, and they enjoyed some luck as Sully McKenna struck the bar.
Wimborne then equalised from a corner, but the home side were undeterred and found the winning goal with five minutes left.
Nathan Byrne’s delivery from a corner was well-placed for Manley to attack it, and he headed home with power.
This time Bridgwater did not let Wimborne back into it, and so this young side - which fielded seven Under-16s alongside some experienced team-mates - can now look forward to a final against either Bath City or SGS/Mangotsfield.
