Nailsea & Tickenham 1, Middlezoy Rovers 1

MIDDLEZOY travelled to Nailsea for the second Saturday in a row, this time to face Nailsea & Tickenham.

The visitors were hoping for a better result and performance than last week, when they lost to Nailsea United.

Zoy choose to play into the wind in the first half, and Nailsea started well.

Greg Turner made two one-on-one saves in the opening 10 minutes, as Zoy were finding it hard to build attacks with the wind in their faces.

Dan Luce had their best chance of the half when he knocked the ball past the keeper, only for a covering defender to clear off the line.

On the half hour, Nailsea had a golden opportunity to take the lead when they were awarded a penalty.

For the second week running, though, Turner saved from the spot and smothered the rebound.

Zoy again had Turner to thank as he kept out a deflected effort with the last kick of the half.

In the second half, with the strong wind in their favour, it was Zoy’s turn to attack.

Ten minutes into the second half, they took the lead as Luce forced the ball in following saved efforts from Charlie Lintell and Adam Long.

The visitors were now on top and looked like they were going to go further in front, but both Luce and Long spurned one-on-one chances.

On the hour, they were made to pay for these misses when unmarked Nailsea full-back Christopher Gale smashed home from a corner.

Five minutes later, Jed Williams saw red for a dangerous tackle and the visitors had to play out the final 25 minutes with 10 men.

Zoy defended brilliantly with Turner rarely being troubled, and they could have perhaps nicked all three points, but Lintell sent a late effort over the bar.

Man of the match: Greg Turner
