Taunton Town 3, Wimborne Town 0

TAUNTON Town returned to winning ways with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Wimborne Town at the Cygnet Health Care Stadium.

Town had lost four of their previous five matches, including a 4-1 loss at Yate Town last weekend, but goals from Dan Sullivan, Andrew Neal and Ollie Chamberlain ensured the hosts delivered the response manager Rob Dray had been calling for.

Taunton – captained by Shane White, with Matt Wright on the bench - started on top, with Lewis Hall volleying wide before Ryan Brett had a shot saved by Bournemouth loanee Cameron Plain.

Antonio Diaz came close at the other end, shooting inches wide on 25 minutes, but the breakthrough went the way of the hosts.

It came via Sullivan, who had earlier sent two efforts straight at Plain but made no mistake when he surged through nine minutes before the break and slotted into the net.

Bristol City loanee Ryley Towler was handed a start and played an influential role towards the end of the half, firstly setting up Jamie Short to fire into the side netting before crossing for Neal to double Taunton’s advantage on the stroke of half-time.

Wimborne had chances to get back into the game early in the second half, Luke Burbidge firing the best of those over after a neat one-two on 49 minutes.

Lloyd Irish was then called into action midway through the half to keep out Fatah Makhloufi and Curtis Young as the hosts rode out some nervy moments.

The destination of the points was put beyond doubt with just 10 minutes to play, however, as Chamberlain smashed home Neal’s cross to treble the lead.

Irish preserved the clean sheet with another superb save in stoppage time as Town saw off opponents who have given them a hard time in the past.

Next up for the Peacocks is a crunch trip to league leaders Chesham United next Saturday.
