BRIDGWATER Town striker Steve Murray has left the club to join Melksham Town.

Murray, who joined the Robins from Street last summer, scored 13 goals in 27 league appearances for Bridgwater but has opted to move to the Southern League Division 1 South side.

Town co-manager Dave Pearse said: “It is a shame as he scores goals.

“But he had his reasons and he has left on good terms.”

Murray's departure perhaps places more onus on Jack Taylor to fire the goals for Town, though it does also create further opportunities for Noah Coppin, the BTC youngster on dual registration with Taunton Town who scored his first Robins goal in the 4-0 midweek win over Cadbury Heath.

Bridgwater play the third of their four straight home matches on Saturday as Shepton Mallet visit Fairfax Park.

Town leapfrogged this weekend's opponents in the table with the win over Cadbury Heath, their second win in four days after last Saturday's 3-2 victory over Bridport.

“Shepton is a big game on Saturday - as is Exmouth next Tuesday - and we will now target top four as top two looks a long way off," Pearse said.

"We have started to build some momentum again so hopefully we can keep that going."

Elsewhere this weekend, second plays third in the Somerset County League Premier Division as Middlezoy Rovers welcome Clevedon United.
