NOVEMBER was the month of the Association of Colleges (AoC) Sport Regionals for Richard Huish College, with over 140 students taking on the very best from across the South West.

The sports Huish took part in included netball, volleyball, cross-country, women’s rugby, men’s rugby, women’s football, men’s football, tennis, badminton, table tennis, women’s basketball, men’s basketball, cricket and mixed hockey.

There were multiple highlights among the performances from the various teams.

Basketball built on last year’s success with both the women’s and men’s team qualifying once again and now hoping to advance on last year’s results.

The mixed hockey team also won their regional competition against Exeter and Truro Colleges to secure their place in the national finals.

Seven volleyballers tried out for the South West Barbarians team, with all of them being selected.

The Huish runners were also on fine form with Charlotte Brown, Imogen Rogers, Sam Ponter, Oscar Lee and Andrew Power racing their way to the Cross-Country finals, along with tennis players Matthew Harrison and Meg Pineda-Langford who gained qualification.

Sports Development Officer Mike Ryan said: “The AoC Regionals have been extremely successful this year with one of the largest numbers of students qualifying from the College in recent years.

"This does not tell the whole story as we were unlucky with a number of others students just missing out on qualification.

"This year’s nationals will be an exciting opportunity for those who have qualified to test their skills against some of the best teams and individual athletes from across the country.

"I have no doubt that the students who were lucky enough to attend last year will be hoping to build on the success from last year and will bring more accolades back with them.”

The AoC Sport National Championships 2020 will take place over the weekend of April 24-26, 2020, at the University of Nottingham’s David Ross Sports Village.
