Keynsham Town Res 2, Middlezoy Rovers 3

MIDDLEZOY Rovers made the long trip to newly-promoted Keynsham on Saturday, hoping to solidify their place in second spot.

With Keynsham lying fifth, having made a promising start to the season, Zoy knew it was not going to be easy.

The visitors nearly took the lead inside the opening five minutes, when Jake Horsey headed a Dan Luce corner on to the underside of the bar before the ball bounced to safety.

They were seeing a lot of the ball but found it difficult to break a high Keynsham backline.

The home side took the lead against the run of play, breaking at pace before the Keynsham striker bent his effort into the top corner from 18 yards.

In the second half, Middlezoy levelled after Alex Male was brought down in the box and Liam Winter fired home the penalty.

Zoy added a second when Jamie Temlett did brilliantly to score a header from a tight angle, but Keynsham’s centre forward tapped home an equaliser.

With 10 minutes to go, Liam Winter picked the ball up out wide and spotted the keeper off his line.

He produced an audacious lob from 25 yards to put his side back in front.

Zoy saw out the remaining time with Greg Turner rarely being troubled, to earn an impressive away victory.

Man of the match: Liam Winter

Middlezoy are at home this coming Saturday, with 12th-placed Stockwood Green the visitors (ko 2pm).

MIDDLEZOY Rovers Reserves kept themselves top of the Division 2 standings, with a 3-1 win at home to Fry Club Reserves on Saturday.

Luke Morgan, Carl Tucker and Craig Wright got the goals for the hosts, with Michael Thorpe replying.

The result keeps unbeaten Zoy three points clear at the summit, but second-placed Welton Rovers Reserves have a game in hand.

Without a fixture this Saturday, Zoy host Long Ashton on December 14.

SUNDAY saw Middlezoy Rovers Ladies drop to seventh in the South West Women’s Premier Division table, after a 3-2 loss at Wootton Bassett Town.

They gave the league leaders a real scare, as two goals from new signing Demi Reading put them 2-1 up, after Lauren Kayll had opened the scoring for the hosts.

Substitute Hayley Huckin turned it around, scoring twice in the second half to win it for the home side.

Zoy host Portishead this Sunday (ko 2pm).
