Middlezoy Rovers 2, Westfield 2

MIKE Duffy scored twice to earn his new Middlezoy side a point at home to Westfield on Saturday.

Westfield had already beaten Zoy twice this season, in league and cup, so the hosts knew it wasn’t going to be an easy task.

Zoy started on the front foot, though, and Liam Winter tested the visiting goalkeeper with several long-range efforts.

After having the majority of the opening possession, Zoy were dealt a blow on 15 minutes when Westfield scored with their first attack.

A ball over the top caught the home back four flat-footed and Westfield winger Jack Davis snuck in to slot the ball home.

Zoy went in search of a reply and twice hit the underside of the crossbar through Adam Long and Jed Williams, as their finishing was again letting them down.

On 30 minutes, Zoy finally found the equaliser they deserved as Long’s ball over the top found Dan Luce, who managed to hold off his man before playing the ball into Duffy, who poked the ball through the keeper’s legs with a first-time finish to bring the scores level going into the break.

Chances continued to come for Zoy in the second half.

The first fell to Luce, when brilliant work from Duffy out wide saw him cut the ball back to Luce on the edge of the box, but he failed to trouble the keeper.

Lee Graham was looking dangerous from set-pieces and it seemed like only a matter of time before Zoy found a second goal.

Again, though, they were made to pay for not taking their chances when a Westfield corner was headed into the bottom corner by centre forward Ryan Allen with 15 minutes remaining.

Long worked himself an opening as the hosts sought another equaliser with time running out, but he screwed his effort across the face of goal.

In the dying moments, however, a corner was cleared only as far as Duffy, who finished from 18 yards on the half-volley to give his side a deserved share of the points.
