Uhlsport Somerset County League
Division 1
Timsbury Athletic 2, Burnham Utd 1

BURNHAM United went down 2-1 in this top-of-the-table clash on Saturday.

It began well for the visitors, though, as Curtis Bradshaw put them ahead with a right-footed strike after 15 minutes.

United had to soak up pressure for the home side, with goalkeeper Fraser McDiarmid pulling off two outstanding saves.

At the other end, Ryan Stiles came close with a header past the post from Charlie Harding’s corner, and on the stroke of half-time Bradshaw’s lob sailed just over the crossbar.

Bradshaw went close again early in the second half, but the home side equalised soon after when striker Rhys Cook pounced on a loose ball and slotted it home.

Jamie Merrick had a header from Mike Stevens' cross saved, but it was Timsbury who scored the winner 20 minutes from time, Callum Taylor heading home from a free-kick.

Burnham United Reserves 4, Cutters Friday 2

BURNHAM Reserves made it five wins in a row with a deserved 4-2 victory over Cutters Friday at the weekend.

The hosts started the strongest and were rewarded on 15 minutes as Cain Smith broke the deadlock, but their lead was short-lived - Cutters equalising through Chris Midgley five minutes later.

Burnham re-took the lead with a great strike from Josh Watkins, but they found themselves down to 10 men before half-time, as Matthew Dibble was sent off for a second yellow card.

Cutters started the second half well, and Jacob Reader scored to level the game.

United piled on the pressure, despite their numerical disadvantage, and Scott Lismore finished off a fine move to put Burnham ahead for the third time.

In a frantic finish, with the visitors throwing everything at Burnham, Cain Smith popped up with his second of the game to secure the three points.

BURNHAM B fielded a young side for the away trip to Draycott on Saturday.

The inexperience could not be blamed as Burnham found themselves 4-0 down within the first 20 minutes, as the visitors made a series of defensive errors.

Burnham soon rallied and started to take the fight to Draycott, who were pressed deep into their own half for the remaining 60 minutes of the contest.

Three goals from Kieran Moores, Luka Krstic and Chris Hart pulled the score back to 4-3.

A brief lapse in intensity from Burnham led to Draycott’s fifth and final goal, against the run of play.
