Vivary 54, Tone 54

TAUNTON teams Vivary and Tone went head-to-head on Sunday, in an inter-club match which finished all square after a goal from Tone's Jade Barnett in the dying seconds of the game.

Vivary made a very strong start, scoring five unanswered goals and storming into a 19-7 lead by the end of the first quarter.

However, Tone began to find their rhythm in a much more evenly matched second quarter.

The third quarter saw both teams battle and Tone close the gap, to trail by just five goals going into the final period.

It was all to play for, with the score levelling up and both teams fighting to edge forward.

In a tense passage of attacking play, Vivary made a timely turnover but Tone managed to win the ball back, and Barnett (GA) secured a 54-54 draw at the death.

Hendford 42, Monmouth 52

MONMOUTH continued their fine form with a victory away to Yeovil side Hendford.

The first quarter was tight, with both teams scoring on the centre passes.

With great rebounds from Monmouth’s defence, the ball was brought down the court and converted to take a 14-8 lead.

The second quarter saw Hendford come out strong, but the visitors adapted their play and applied pressure, to maintain their lead (25-20).

Monmouth stepped up their game in the third quarter, with strong rebounding, accurate passes and interceptions.

In the final quarter, Monmouth kept their cool despite umpiring calls not going their way, to register another win.

Aldon 27, Blackdown 42

BLACKDOWN also came away from Yeovil with a good win, in their case over Aldon.

Given the weekend weather, the visitors were grateful for an indoor game.

The match began with both teams fighting hard, in a well-contested first quarter which ended 8-7 to Blackdown.

The Taunton side knew they had to work hard to maintain their lead, and with some great feeds into the circle from Erin Humpshris, they led 17-15 at half-time.

Some positional changes in the third quarter saw Andrea Dobson come on at WA, Tina Follett move to GD and Louise Frost pick up the WD bib to settle Blackdown’s play and take them to a 27-22 lead.

A determined final quarter from Blackdown saw secure the victory.

Minstrels 44, Tudor 30

PURNELL side Minstrels proved too strong for Tudor in the third flight.

Tudor led the first quarter, with both teams adjusting to positional changes (7-4).

The hosts hit the ground running in the second quarter, but Tudor kept themselves in the game with some good turnovers and accurate shooting (16-15).

In a high intensity third quarter, Tudor fought hard for every ball but Minstrels found their flow and pulled away (32-22).

Both teams stepped up their defensive pressure in the final quarter and, although it wasn’t the result Tudor hoped for, they took heart from a great team performance against a strong opponent.
