Somerset Premier
Weston-super-Mare II 3, Burnham-on-Sea 53
BURNHAM-ON-SEA made it a magnificent seven wins in a row on Saturday, maintaining their 100 per cent record for the season with a 53-3 triumph away to Weston-super-Mare 2nd XI.
The visitors were 24-3 up at half-time, and pushed on to secure a comfortable victory that keeps them at the summit of the Somerset Premier standings.
Burnham skipper Ross McKechan said: “We put in another solid performance against Weston on Saturday.
“They started well but when we started to move the ball, they couldn’t cope with us.
“Unfortunately, we lost Luke Gowan to a dislocated elbow early on and we wish him a speedy recovery.
“At the end of the first half, we started to really exploit the space, picking them off to score well-worked tries.
“I was really impressed with the second-half performance, as all of the players stepped it up a gear to turn the screw on them, which highlights how far we’ve come in the last 18 months.
“We ran away with it in the end and stopped them from scoring any tries, which we were happy with.
“We go again next week against Old Reds, looking to continue our strong start to the season.”
Old Redcliffians 2nds’ visit to the BASC Ground on Saturday also marks McKechan’s 200th game for the club, 58 of which have come as captain.
