Brunel Division 1
Old Bristolians II 4, Burnham-on-Sea 6

BURNHAM Hockey Club ladies made it three wins in a row following this see-saw encounter, to go into the half-term break second in the league.

The visitors had to withstand enormous pressure in the first 10 minutes, as the hosts attacked furiously from the off, but they only had a disallowed goal to show for it as the Burnham defence stood strong.

Nicky Glanville and Emma Ballard made vital blocks and interceptions, while goalkeeper Lucy Stacey was immense again.

The Blues took the lead against the run of play, through Amy Edmundson’s super strike from a short corner, and they never looked back.

One goal quickly became two as Kerry Harvey finished off a nice move down the right, following Glanville’s accurate pass out of defence.

Becky Smith and Livvy Hunt alternated in left midfield, showing great composure and work ethic as they combined well with wing-back Carly Bush.

Caroline Hunt then set up the third for Edmundson with a storming run up the right, as both she and Bush enjoyed plenty of room to support the front two.

Edmundson then completed her hat-trick with a rebound that bobbled over the line after initially drawing out the goalkeeper, which made it 4-0 to Burnham at half time.

A shell-shocked Old Bristolians side came out fighting in the second half, and quickly clawed two goals back.

Then an unlucky deflection and an own goal made it 4-4, but rather than let their heads drop, Burnham showed great team spirit as they dug in.

Sarah Johnson and Hattie Rogers drove the team on from midfield, and Bush showed great energy and desire bombing up and down the left.

With just seven minutes left, the Blues attacked at pace again with Louise Peace and Hunt combining well for Edmundson to fire the Blues ahead with another terrific shot that this time nestled in the left-hand corner of the goal.

Not to be outdone, her strike partner Harvey got the final goal of the game moments later, as nice work between Rogers and Edmundson saw the ball pop loose to Harvey at the top of the D and she hit it first time past the keeper.

Player of the match: Amy Edmundson

Burnham now have a break before hosting Winscombe on Saturday, November 2.
