ENMORE Park Seniors’ day began with 48 eager golfers sheltering from the torrential rain in the Minehead clubhouse, but the rain ceased and the annual MET (Minehead Enmore Tiverton) Shield competition could proceed.

Tiverton, winners in 2018, were eager to retain the trophy, but the eight-pair team from Enmore had other ideas and came in worthy winners, scoring a combined 331 points to Tiverton’s 321 and Minehead’s 314.

Enmore Seniors’ other fixture saw them made the trip to Cricket St Thomas, and a course that they tend to find very tricky.

This match proved to be more productive, as the visitors won 4-3.

Enmore’s winners were captain Steve Lukins with Vince Coombs, Ray Lukeski with Jim McGuckin and Tony Pomeroy with Mike Sullivan (all 1 up).

Also this week, Enmore travelled to rearranged venue of Weston-super-Mare Golf Club for their Pickeridge Bowl final against Clevedon and returned home with the silverware (3½-1½).

Through 13 holes, Enmore already had a point on the board through Jack Dray’s 6&5 win and with Danny Crook and Ryan Brewer being 1 up, Craig Lazenby all square and Taylor Stote 5 up, they looked in a good position heading into the final holes.

Clevedon battled back and it was all tight going into the final hole.

Crook held on to win 1 up, Brewer’s match was halved and Lazenby lost on the 18th, so Enmore retained the Bowl.

On Wednesday, the Enmore Park Ladies took part in a nine hole Greensome competition.

The winners were Rachel Johnson and Heather Neale, with Karen Flanagan and Mo Veale the runners-up.

Enmore have an October offer of 15 months’ membership for the price of 12.

Anyone joining under this scheme will pay the 2019 membership price throughout 2020, thus avoiding any yearly increases.
