South West 1 West
North Petherton 22, Newent 18

JAMIE Adams scored the winning try to provide a perfect finale to his 100th North Petherton appearance as the Oaks edged past Newent on Saturday.

Pethy flew out the blocks and were ahead within three minutes as Henry Gliddon finished of a flowing move.

The remainder of the half was a scrappy affair and Pethy conceded two interception tries as the visitors took a 15-5 lead into the break.

The home side improved after the break and tries from Jon Gallagher and Aiden Cotton closed the gap.

Adams then went over for the final try, leaving Pethy with a nervy final period to see out.

Newent put pressure on but Pethy fly-half Josh Frost did brilliantly to secure a turnover and the victory was sealed.

Pethy’s third win in six league matches takes them into mid-table, level on points with Bridgwater & Albion - the first derby of the season is at Beggars Brook on November 22.

This Saturday, Pethy travel to struggling Newton Abbot.

Team manager Andrew Ford said: “We were happy with the performance but we still have plenty to work on.

“We targeted 10 points from these two games [Newent and Newton Abbot] - we have five of them, so we will look for more of the same this weekend.”

North Petherton 2nds picked up a home walkover in Somerset 1 as visitors Midsomer Norton 2nds couldn’t raise a team.

This weekend, the Pethy side travel to Keynsham 2nds.
