Sapphires 21, Saturn 59

SYDENHAM Sapphires started well in their first home game of the season, as the teams went goal-for-goal for the first 10 minutes.

The attackers were able to get the ball down the court, to allow Katie and Carly to shoot.

Despite great effects from the defence, Saturn took the lead and won 51-29 in the end.

Rubies 25, Newbarn 36

RUBIES had a slow start and a strong wind made it hard for shooters Rhinnon Crabtree and Aerin Phillips.

Newbarn took full advantage, leading 11-1 but a much more competitive second quarter showed improved movement and confidence.

Anna Belcher linked well with Katie Issitt, and great communication between defenders Jessie Venning and Emily Moore made it hard work for Newbarn, who ultimately won 36-25.

Emeralds 34, Mars 45

EMERALDS held their own in the first quarter against Bridgwater Mars, going goal-for-goal.

In the second quarter, Hollie Davis and Charlie Webb took their chances well but Mars led 19-17.

Emeralds didn’t give up, with great turnovers and interceptions from Dannielle Carter-White, Hannah Wallis and Leah Roberts to level the scores at 27-27 at the end of the third quarter.

Despite great defence from Amelia Williams and brilliant movement down the court by Lily Garwood, the match ended 45-34 to Mars.

Lovell Titans 48, Gems 30

GEMS travelled to Newton Abbot for their first away game of the season.

They began well, and the first quarter ended 9-7 to Titans.

Gems were eager to close the gap and strong defensive play from Amy Burley, Beth Fella and Carly Martin made it difficult for Titans.

Yet Gems struggled to get the ball into the attack and Titans claimed the win.

Jupiter 33, Claremont 47

BRIDGWATER Jupiter faced a strong Claremont side this weekend, knowing it was going to be a tough game.

Jupiter came out all guns blazing in the first quarter with timely interceptions and defensive pressure from player of the match Imma Matcham (GD), which allowed Katy Cheese (GA) to score, finishing the first quarter only one behind.

The second quarter saw some great attacking play by Amy Portlock (WA), but Claremont’s defence were on the ball as they pulled 22-14 ahead at half-time.

In the second half Jupiter switched players around and brought on fresh legs.

Lisa Lukins (GK) worked tirelessly in Claremont’s attacking circle but despite fine efforts from the whole team, it was Claremont who won the day.

Saturn 51, Sapphires 29

SATURN took on local rivals Sydenham Sapphires and started strongly, with Kia Jenner (GS) and Cerys Ethridge (GA) receiving strong feeds from Izzy Innalls (WA) to build a 13-7 lead.

The Bridgwater side continued to pull away in the second quarter, thanks to strong feeds from Kirsty Harry (C), as the quarter ended 28-11.

Saturn went into the final quarter in confident fashion and saw out the win.

Neptune 34, Parkfield 44

NEPTUNE hosted a talented Parkfield side, starting well with Jazz Alexander (WD) and Hazel Hucker (WA) linking well with Jess Chee (C).

The Galmington team led 11-10 after the first quarter, and it was 26-17 at half-time.

Neptune continued to battle, and they won the last quarter, but it was too late to pull the score back.

Mars 45, Emeralds 34

MARS faced neighbours Sydenham Emeralds, and an extremely close first quarter ended 10-10.

Mars took a slight lead in the second quarter, 19-17, but going into the final period it was 27-27.

The last quarter saw Mars take back control, as shooters Immy Kennard and Becky Kennard put away 18 goals between them.

This was a great team effort, showing resilience and determination right to the final whistle.

Luna 31, Venus 30

THIS inter-club match began in glorious sunshine, with Luna leading by two goals after the first quarter.

Venus’ defence then tightened up, and they had a three-goal advantage at half-time (19-16).

Luna then made some changes and it was 23-23 going into the fourth and final quarter.

It was goal-for-goal up to the final whistle, with Luna winning it at the death.
