Jupiter 35, Abbey 13

THE sun was shining on Bridgwater Jupiter’s second game of the season, and after a tentative start they began to find their form.

Steady play down the court was finished off by Katy Cheese, taking Jupiter into the second quarter with an 8-6 lead.

Jupiter continued to apply pressure as Lisa Lukins and Imma Matcham generated valuable turnovers, while Baylea Charles’ partnership with Sammie Griffin limited the space in Abbey’s attack.

Jupiter took advantage of those turnovers, with precise feeding from Amy Portlock allowing Maddie Kennard to keep scoring.

Tomahawks 46, Saturn 32

SATURN started their season at Paulton Tomahawks, with the home side taking an early 14-9 lead.

But with Katie Anthony working hard around the circle edge, Saturn managed a closer second quarter.

The defence of Abbey Newton and Sally Haysham kept the team in contention, while at the other end Cerys Etheridge and Kia Jenner were shooting well.

Kirsty Harry had an excellent debut game at centre, linking and intercepting up and down the court.

An injury to Jenner meant Saturn needed to restructure, but despite the defeat, this was a very promising start for this new line-up.

Neptune 26, Vipers 61

BRIDGWATER Neptune took on Vipers, who showed their experience and dominated with feeds into their shooters that couldn’t be stopped, taking an early 17-7 lead.

Neptune’s Jess Chee (C) making an impact on both defence and attack, while player of the match Izzy Keane (GA) kept the attack alive with great drives forward.

Despite this, Vipers ran out convincing winners.

Venus 11, Arrows 58

INITIALLY Venus struggled with both the heat and the unavailability of several players.

Defensive duo Caitlin Howe and Ashlea Slater worked hard, with some great tips, while Rebecca Kennard and Sharon Ethridge shot accurately at the other end.

Yet at the end of the first quarter Venus felt overheated and dehydrated, and trailed 12-3.

Jazz Alexander took on the centre bib, while in the third quarter Kayleigh Martin-Haste and Dawn Gardener shared the centre load.

The team worked hard but ultimately ended up losing 58-11.

Despite great efforts from Jessie Venning and Amy Knight, Reckleford came back fighting and ended the third quarter 24-23 up.

Wyndham 53, Sapphires 32

For the second week in a row Sapphires travelled to Yeovil, this week to play Wyndham.

For the first half Sapphires held their own, as great defensive turnovers from Sue and Steph meant Lilly, Katie and Emily were able to get the ball down the court, allowing Katie and Carly to shoot.

Half-time arrived with Wyndham just a point ahead, 21-20.

In the second half, Sapphires made some changes which saw fresh-legged Aerin making her debut at GK.

During this half Wyndham upped their game, making it hard for Sapphires to pull back the score, and ultimately Sapphires lost out.
