Falmouth is set to play host to the next two rounds of the HSBC UK National 4X Series on August 24-25, writes Charles Currie.

The mountain bike facility based at Pennance Mill Farm in Maenporth will be holding two days of action packed mountain bike racing for the seventh consecutive year.

Racers from all corners of the country will be flocking to Falmouth to add valuable points towards their series title chases, with Cornish riders being at the forefront across all categories.

Newly-crowned 2019 Senior National Champion and Falmouth 4X track creator, Will Evans, of Ponsanooth, said: “It’s great to have the national series in my home town. I’m hoping to make a repeat of the national championships and win the races to contribute to winning the series as well to seal the deal for 2019."

The course, which is managed by volunteer club Carrick Riders, has been a rider favourite for the best part of a decade, and provides a true test of the competitor’s skills and tactics.

Spectating for the events is free and anyone is welcome. If you want to give this adrenaline fuelled sport a go, there are even non-licensed categories for all ages, with on the day entries.
