TAUNTON Town will be missing two of their summer signings for tonight's Somerset Premier Cup final at Weston-super-Mare (ko 7.45pm).

The final was moved from the end of last season to this pre-season, due to Taunton contesting the Southern League play-offs, and the venue switched from Yeovil's Huish Park to the Seagulls' Optima Stadium on the toss of a coin.

The Somerset FA has allowed all currently registered players to turn out for this final, including new signings from the off-season.

The exception is regarding players who featured for another club in the competition last season, so Naby Diallo cannot face his former club and his fellow midfielder Jamie Short – who was at Street – is also cup-tied.

It leaves the Peacocks a bit short in the middle of the park, with Ryan Brett having not played in pre-season due to a knee injury, and so Ollie Chamberlain is the only regular midfielder available to head of football Rob Dray.

That may mean Ben Adelsbury or Shane White being pushed up from their customary defensive roles, or Josh Grant or Dan Sullivan dropping back from the forward line to partner Chamberlain.

Weston won their opening two friendlies, against Ashton & Backwell United (3-2) and Banwell (8-1), but then lost to Exeter City (3-0), Slimbridge (3-2) and Newport County (8-1), before a 1-1 draw at Clevedon Town last Wednesday.

As for Taunton, they have beaten Tavistock (5-0), Bridgwater Town (2-0) and Cheltenham Town (7-0), lost to Yeovil Town (2-0) and held Exeter City (2-2).

The Peacocks will be hoping for a repeat of the 2017 Premier Cup final result, as Owen Irish and Matt Buse both scored twice in a 4-2 victory over Weston.

Adding to the intrigue is the fact that the Seagulls will be lining up in Southern League Premier Division South this year, having been relegated from National League South last season.

Taunton and Weston face each other in the league on Boxing Day (at Taunton) and Easter Monday (at Weston).
