THE only team so far to inflict a home defeat on Enmore Park seniors have been the Bristol & Clifton seniors, so it was with a great sense of resolve to right the wrong that Enmore visited the B&C club and, lo and behold, they came away with an outstanding victory, by 5.5 matches to the home team’s 2.5.

Doing the business for Enmore were Vince Coombs with Steve James (3&2), Ray Hancock with Jeff Saunders (4&3), Paul Waplington with Kelvin Tuthill (4&3), Iain Stewart with Mike Sullivan (2 up) and Dave Cousins with Carl Netto (4&3), while captain Steve Lukins and David Taylor secured the half point.

The next day Enmore hosted the seniors of the Oake Manor club.

On a windless but humid day the result was parity, both teams accumulating four points each.

Captain Steve Lukins and Chris Willsteed had a fine 4&3 win, but were bettered by Tim Smith and Jeff Saunders (7&6) and the two Jims, Smith and McGuckin (5&4), while two matches were halved – Tony Pomeroy with Iain Stewart and Dave Cousins with Ben Gliddon.

The winner of the captain’s away day to St Mellons, Cardiff, was Terry Davies.

The winner of the Enmore ladies section Club Medal and Lady President’s Putter, with a nett 73, was Christine Lewis, with Jackie Bull the runner-up.

This coming week sees Enmore ladies competing for the Club Championship over 36 holes, with the Biddiscombe Trophy running alongside the 18-hole Brown Trophy.

Local junior golfers are reminded that entry for the Enmore Park 2019 Junior Open competition – set to take place on Monday, August 5 – is now open.
