Lympsham & Belvedere 275-3 beat Broadway & Horton 215 by 60 runs

LYMPSHAM & Belvedere’s bid to (potentially) replace Burnham-on-Sea in Division 2 next season continues apace, as they won by 60 runs away to third-placed Broadway & Horton on Saturday.

Having been inserted, Lympsham lost Mike Hosey (8) and Dave Luff (retired on 7no) early on, but Nathan Hancock upped the scoring with 23.

Tom Gooding contributed 51no but the star of the show was Jack Luff, who smashed 24 fours and two sixes in a magnificent unbeaten 148 (from 120 balls).

That led the visitors to a big total of 275-3 but, to be fair to Broadway, they gave the run chase a right good go.

All but three of their batsmen managed double figures but no-one could match Luff’s feat, with Charlie Norman (52), Russell Hilton (34) and Dylan Lowman (22) their top scorers.

Sam McCrea claimed 3-49, Jon Youngs 2-25 and Jack Luff 2-40 as the hosts were all out for 215 in 41.5 overs.

Lympsham, who lead the Division 3 standings by 49 points (albeit having played one more game than closest rivals Weston-super-Mare 2nds), are without a game this weekend.

They return to action away to Uphill Castle 2nds on August 3.

HUNTSPILL & District 1st XI suffered their first Division 4 defeat of the season at second-placed Castle Cary on Saturday.

Arriving as leaders, Huntspill were put in to bat and, despite losing Nick Slack early on, settled well as Sam Lillycrop and Thomas Garner put together a big stand.

Garner was the first to go for 37, with Jake Randall next in.

When he made 10, Randall became the first victim of Rich Atkinson, who went on to take 4-31 in a match-changing spell.

Wickets tumbled and Lillycrop was eventually out for 74, leaving Huntspill to scramble to a disappointing 158 all out.

When Cary replied, Lillycrop struck early and, when Adams toppled Charlie Elsworth for 4, all looked good for Huntspill.

However, Atkinson and Callum Chainey (31) restored Cary’s hopes and Atkinson was still there on 53 as the home side came home with three wickets and six overs remaining.

In Division 5, Wedmore kept in touch with leaders Taunton Deane with a seven-wicket win at Weston 3rds.

The home side elected to bat but lost wickets quickly as Bob Burgess and Martyn Boley struck.

Only George Bemand offered late resistance with 20no as Weston struggled to 104 all out.

There were two wickets apiece for Bob and Josh Burgess, Ian Harris and Sam Blackburn.

When Wedmore replied, they coasted to victory, despite losing both openers cheaply.

Marcus Lee steadied the innings with 36no.
