Albion signing Alexis Mac Allister has revealed the massive spotlight he will be under at Boca Juniors.

The attacking midfielder had to change his phone number after he secured a dream move to the Buenos Aires giants on loan.

Mac Allister has scored in two recent pre-season games and was introduced to the media yesterday as one of three Boca close-season signings.

He hopes to play a part in the Copa Libertadores as Boca play Brazilian side Athletico Paranaense over two legs.

Mac Allister gave a mature performance in front of the assembled media – to match his 30-yard swerving finish against Chivas and a cleverly chipped and curled free-kick from the edge of the box against Atletico Tucuman.

Excitement is growing as to what the 20-year-old Albion man could produce after switching his loan allegiance from lowly Argentinos Juniors.

Asked about the spotlight of being a Boca player, he replied: “The day before I signed, I had to change my phone number.

“Life is going to change. When I go out to eat and people ask for photos, obviously these things are changing.

“But I am ready to show affection to the people – to people who respect me, above all.”

Mac Allister is aware of the huge demands on Boca players to win the Libertadores after their defeat in last year’s final to arch enemies River Plate.

But he said: “For me, what I have said before is, when I play football, I try to enjoy it.

“For me, the word pressure isn’t in the dictionary.

“Obviously there are difficult situations but I have learnt from a great friend to convert negative words into positives.

“I prefer to convert pressure into responsibility.

“We are aware of what this club means, what we are playing for in this cup.

“We will work and we are working so that things go well.”

Mac Allister revealed his boss Gustavo Alvaro has told him he hopes to use him in his preferred role, just behind the main striker.

But he is also comfortable wide on the left or left of centre in a 4-3-3.

If handed a central role, Mac Allister is likely to have some serious know-how just behind him as Boca close in on hugely experienced Italian central midfielder Daniele De Rossi following his exit from Roma.
