IT was another great sporting weekend, as Running Forever Running Club members refused to be eclipsed by some bloke driving in a circle or some other blokes with bats.

Massive congratulations go to Helen Needs, who completed her first Ultra at the Race to the Stones 50K event.

Despite a tumble early on, Helen found the stones and a lovely bit of bling in 8.14.

Also on the Ultra trail were the intrepid trio of Ali Bisatt, Sam Wharton and Damon Butler, who headed to Snowdonia for the very tough Trail Ultra.

After a massive amount of running up, running down and wobbling on the edges, Bisatt finished in 7.14 to take fourth in his age group, Wharton (7.44) swept up fifth female and Butler crossed the line in 10.11.

There was a little trip in a boat and a bit of a run for Ian Bawler and Rachel Nicholls, who travelled to Lundy Island for their 13.5-mile tour of this beautiful place; Bawler finished in 2.40 and Nicholls in 3.26.

Making things just slightly trickier, Heather Pearce and Sarah Henderson had to forego the boat and swim between the run legs of the Breca Gower.

A total of 37km of running and 5km of swimming, with 18 transitions in between, was completed in nine hours.

The Blackdown Beauty isn’t really a race; it’s more of a scenic run with a cream tea and a few pub stops.

Simon Rowland, Chris Buckman and James Talke tackled the 19-mile course and Eliza Brodie the 13-mile route.

It was off to the Otter Rail and River 10k for Sally Tuer on Sunday, and her efforts saw her crossing the line in 56.53 for a second age group place.

Pat Pike took a run up Brean Down, and her 1.13 finish in the 10k saw her take the top spot in her age group.

Eight members travelled to Tiverton for the Grand Western Canal Run 10k.

There are no official times for this event, but RFRC members are well equipped... Tanya Lewis finished in 49.00, followed by Simon Rowland (56.42), Malcolm Hutchings (59.40), Dave Mackenzie (60.00) Tracey Marshall (67 mins), Rachel Jones (1.23), Kate Mackenzie and Karen Chapman (both 1.32).

Gavin Clegg was first in the M60 category at the Marston Lodge Spartan Sprint 5k, with 19 obstacles, including a barbed wire crawl and a rope climb!

A quartet of ladies travelled to Yeovilton on Wednesday night, for a race in their popular 5k series.

Ann-Marie Crampton (24.53) set the pace, with Ola Timpson (25.03), Sally Tuer (25.51) and Mercedes Thorne (25.57) hot on her heels.

Parkrun tourists travelled to Black Park, Poole, Winchester, Thornbury, Forest Rec, Burnham and Exmouth.

Thirty-two took on Longrun Meadow, where Tanya Herbison scored a PB, Chris Brown was first male and Caroline Norris first female.

TAUNTON AC’s Luke Goldsworthy came home first overall at the Bath Two Tunnels event, his time of 1.16.11 giving him a personal best by 60 seconds.

James Currie followed in 1.39.23, shaving three-and-a-half minutes off his previous best time.

A big group of TAC members headed to Exmouth Parkrun at the weekend.

Everyone had an enjoyable time, and several returned with PBs.

HYDRO Harriers’ Mark Foss achieved an impressive Longrun Meadow Parkrun 10th place out of 400 finishers after a time of 19mins 37sec.

Ian Salter was 11th, 17 seconds behind.

Rowland Lyons faded and struggled home in 25.40.

WELLINGTON Weavers Running Club were out in numbers last Sunday for the Grand Western Canal 10k run.

On a humid day, the Weavers – interspersed with other runners – ran along the tranquil stretch of canal from Tiverton to Sampford Peverell.

Club founder Simon Booth said: “This was not an event where thoughts were on personal bests.

“This was a run, jog or walk, with the focus on raising money for children with Leukaemia through CLIC Sargent.”

Representing the Weavers were Neil Basil, Rebecca Davis, Amy Walsh, Luke Merchant, Simon Booth, Sam Austin, Harvey Austin, Yasmin Austin, Craig Clark, Paul Thompson and Ollie Bride.

Club members’ friends and family also took part in the event.
