IT’S not just Taunton Deane Cricket Club’s men's 1st XI who are enjoying a good season... because Deane Women are sitting pretty at the top of the Somerset Cricket Board Hardball League (South Division).
They extended their lead with a 14-run win at home to Bridgwater on Monday night, having been put in to bat by the visitors.
Laura Currie sped to 35 from 34 balls, then retired not out, while Hannah Hughes added 26 and Donna Nelmes 8no, in the hosts’ 149-4 from their allotted 20 overs.
Tilly Bond took 2-23 off four for Bridgwater, who could only reach 135-7 in reply.
Bond (24) and Jemima Turner (36) led the way with the bat for them; Hughes (3-21 off four) topped the bowling figures, with Sarah Nicholls, Amy Sloman and Toni Smyth picking up one wicket apiece.
Deane have now played all of their league matches, and sit on 31 points.
