Monmouth Scientific Somerset League Division 2

Frome 2nds 57-1 beat Burnham-on-Sea 54 by 9 wkts

BURNHAM-ON-SEA sit precariously above the bottom two after they were on the receiving end of a thumping at Frome 2nds on Saturday.

The visitors chose to bat, a decision they were left to regret when Frome opening bowler Sam Wheeler single-handedly reduced Burnham to 17-6.

Wheeler finished with 6-13 from his nine overs and there was a slight let-up when Fred Berry and Connor Lefrere added 20 for the eighth wicket.

Lefrere (13) was the only batsman to make double figures as Burnham slumped to 54 all out in the 28th over, Neil Collis mopping up the tail with 2-14.

Hopes were ever so slightly raised when Ollie Farnham struck early in the reply, removing opener Tim Leonard for a duck, but that was as good as it got for the visitors with the ball in hand.

Home captain Richard Potter (13*) and wicketkeeper Ian Pinchen (39*) made short work of chasing the modest total, taking their side to victory inside 13 overs on a miserable afternoon for Burnham.

Burnham will look to bounce back at home to Ilminster 2nds on Saturday.

Division 4

Huntspill & District 214-7 beat Huish & Langport 210-6 by 3 wickets

A brilliant Nick Slack century saw Huntspill & District to a hard fought three-wicket win over Huish & Langport.

The visitors batted first and lost Crossley early to the tight bowling of Lismore (1-26) but rebuilt slowly with Collin & Jon Watts.

Matt Counsell snared Watts for 31 and Richardson joined Collin - the pair took the score past 150, taking advantage of some poor fielding, until Nick Slack ran out Richardson with a direct hit from the boundary.

This brought Godsafe (40*) to the crease who, with Collin, launched a brutal attack on the Huntspill bowlers.

Collin reached a fine century and finally fell for 110 before Huntspill picked up some cheap wickets as Huish finished on 210-6.

In reply, Slack was in fine touch, scoring runs all around the ground with ease.

Lillycrop fell cheaply but Slack raced passed 50 as the run rate plummeted.

Garner had scored a fine 23 before falling with the score on 115, which sparked a mini-collapse as Randall and Jones came and went.

Lismore scored a quickfire 23 as Slack completed fine century as it looked like Huntspill would cruise to victory.

However, Slack and Lismore fell in consecutive overs and, when Edwards hit his own wicket, Huntspill were 30 away from victory with just three wickets in hand.

Matt Counsell hit a quick fire 21 not out and, with support from Hay (14*), saw Huntspill home with no more drama to win by three wickets.

Huntspill & District 219-8 beat Crewkerne 153-7 by 66 runs

On Sunday, Huntspill travelled to Crewkerne and were asked to bat in damp conditions.

Nick Slack hit a quickfire 26 before he fell with the score on 32 and was quickly followed back by brother Craig.

Garner and Lillycrop rebuilt the innings in tough conditions, taking the score to 77 before Garner fell for 17.

Lillycrop started to find batting easier and went to 50 with a powerful drive for four.

The pair increased the scoring rate before Randall fell for 30 after a 95-run partnership.

Osmant hit a rapid 17 and Lillycrop was closing in on a century before he was run out for 96 after a mix up with Matt Counsell (11*).

Huntspill lost a few cheap wickets as they closed on 219-8, which looked above par.

Crewkerne were slow in reply after tight bowling from Dave Counsell & Jake Randall made scoring difficult.

Lillycrop was brought into the attack and clean bowled C Callow for 12.

Matt Counsell (3-24) then swung the game fully in Huntspill's favour taking three wickets in the space of eight balls to leave Crewkerne 50-4.

Gould (50) and Wallace (25) slowly rebuilt but were never able to get on top of the run rate.

Lillycrop returned and took further wicket to finish with 3-15 to complete a fine day at the office as the home side finished well short on 153-7.

Huntspill & District 125-5 beat Lypmsham & Belvedere 2nds 61 by 64 runs

Huntspill reached the SCB Minor Cup Semi Finals with a 64-run win at Lympsham & Belvedere 2nds

In reply, Mike Hosey (41) and Nathan Hancock laid the foundation for skipper Neil Chadwick to hit a confident 85no, including 11 fours and a six, to see his side to victory.

Wedmore travelled to Street 2nds and their promotion hopes suffered a blow as they were beaten by three wickets.

Wedmore’s batting looked frail until Phil Patch hit 30 to bolster the score to 125 all out.

Sam Higgs was the pick of the Street attack with 3-27 off 9.

When Street replied, they struggled against Martyn Boley (2-29 off 9) and Josh Burgess (2-24 off 7) but openers Jeremy Linter hung around for a patient 47 and Gary Holland added 28 to ensure the win.

In Division 7N, leaders Lympsham & Belvedere 2nds continued their unbeaten run with an eight-wicket win at home to Purnell 2nds.

Put in to bat, Purnell struggled until Jack Heath (56) and George Rudd (44) came together for an impressive stand.

They ensured Purnell reach 148 as Paul Davis and Kevin Crockett took three wickets apiece.

Opener Kevin Crockett hit 49no and Brian Hosey 62no as Lympsham coasted home.

Huntspill & District 2nds kept up the chase, beating Weston 4ths by 42 runs.

Huntspill batted consistently with Ryan Mogg (59) heading a middle order of 20-pluses to post 195-5.

Weston failed to overcome Huntspill’s miserly attack, being restricted to 153-4 when the overs ran out.

Louis Wright bowled well to take 2-27 off 7.

East Huntspill forfeited at Cranmore 2nds.

Wedmore 2nds lost ground on the leaders in Division 8N following their 21-run defeat at home to Peasedown St John 2nds.

The visitors’ 193-7 featured a fine 106 from Josh Tucker, with Sam Tucker taking 2-26.

When Wedmore replied, they batted in fits and starts, Lloyd Patch (36) and D. Haining (57) giving them hope before a middle-order collapse ensued.

G. Atkins (20) and Sam Tucker (20no) did their best to rescue the innings but they were short when the last wicket fell.

Mark suffered a 10-wicket defeat when they entertained leaders Lydford Sports 2nds.

They were bowled out for just 57, Felix Grandfield’s 15 being top score, as Tim Lamb took 3-7.

Lydford’s reply was a formality as the openers saw them home.
