CHARD Road Runners had a short distance to travel for the sell-out Martock 10K at the weekend.

This road race sets out from the Fire Station and is a fast route with great support.

Among the 500 runners were four CRRs - Liam Whyte, Phil Goodridge-Reynolds, Lizzie Smith and Nicky Smith - all out to secure some great times.

With the road cleared for the first few hundred meters, it was everyone for themselves as the runners fought for position.

As the field turned to head out of Martock, Whyte was really showing improved form with Goodridge-Reynolds just behind.

Heading towards Kingsbury Episcopi, Lizzie Smith was making excellent progress, as was Nicky Smith, who was picking off early places.

As the race headed past the 5k mark, all four CRRs were looking good for a PB.

Heading back in towards the fire station with a near flat run-in, Liam Whyte was first across for CRRs in 41m 18s (20/501) and a PB.

Next was Phil Goodridge-Reynolds in 45m 46s (67/501) and a PB; followed by Lizzie Smith in 56m 36s (239/501) and a PB and, with an amazing sprint finish, Nicky Smith raced home in 1h 09m 04s (430/501) and another amazing PB.
