ILMINSTER 2nd XI crashed to 85 all out at home to North Newton in Division 2 of the Monmouth Scientific Somerset League on Saturday.

Opting to field first, Ilminster’s Adam Cox and L. Dopson made early inroads into the newton line-up but Tom Williams (47) and Cameron Street (35) rescued the situation to take Newton to 157-9.

Dopson, Sims and Alex Pitman took two wickets apiece.

Ilminster’s reply came under attack straight away as Cameron Street (3-16), Chris Wadham (3-36), Miles Barham (2-20) and Alexis Girardin (2-13) ripped through the line-up.

In Division 3, Broadway & Horton welcomed Watchet and a thrilling encounter ended in a tie.

Asked to bat first, Watchet lost early wickets before L. Woolgrove stopped the rot with an unbeaten 60 to reach 158-6, Charlie Norman and Andy Knight taking two wickets apiece.

Broadway’s reply was disastrous, losing the Larkman brothers with 13 on the board.

At 71-8, it looked all over before Andy Mason entered the fray and hit four sixes and five fours in a match-saving 61no.

The game went to the final ball but last man Mark Davies was run out going for the winner.

North Perrott could only reach 112 as they chased home side Weston 2nds’ 203-7.

Weston’s innings depended largely on a fine 96 from Jason Neave but Tommy Stewart and Lewis Hunt bowled well at the top with two wickets apiece.

The run chase never materialised as Perrott slumped to 51-8.

Defiant innings from Hugo Hammon (24) and Harry Morrisey (14no) failed to save the day with Lauren Filer taking 5-31.

Crewkerne welcomed Taunton St Andrew’s A in Division 4 and emerged 101-run winners.

Put in to bat, Crewkerne’s total of 201-6 was dominated by a big stand from Chris Gould (70) and Jon Gould (50) as wily Martin Baldock took 3-29 from 9.

Adam Kember added a fiery 39no to close the innings in style.

The Saints were sailing along at 58-0 with Guy Wolfenden on 28 and Jacob Hockey 37 but enter Francis Medley (4-18), Darren Parsons (3-30) and Andy Callow (2-10) who ran through the remainder.

South Petherton’s bowlers did well to restrict Castle Cary to 126-8 but failed to get backing from the batsmen, who were all out for 87.

Adam Young (3-38) and Kevin Harris (2-17 off 9) were the pick of Petherton’s bowlers but only Harris (30) offered any resistance in the face of Nick Hewlett and Paul Collings’ bowling.

In Division 7S, a fine, unbeaten 114 from Neil Boulton just made the difference as South Petherton beat home side Ilminster 3rds by five wickets.

Ilminster batted first and an unbeaten 71 from Harry Paul and 17 from Cal Rice took them to a challenging 181-6.

Boulton’s ton took Petherton to the brink before Craig Rice chipped in with 4-38 to make it interesting.

However, Boulton and Jordan Butcher saw them over the line with the last ball of the match.

Broadway & Horton 2nds coasted to a 148-run victory at Middlezoy 2nds after consistent batting allowed them to post 228-8.

David Cook (36) and Tom Wilson (35) headed the scoring, then Graham Field dominated the Middlezoy line-up to take 5-25 off 8.

Ilminster 4ths travelled to Chard 3rds in Division 8S and came away with a six-wicket win.

The home side had Phill Tolley’s 86 to thank for their total of 175-8, as Josh Lamb took 4-30.

Jon Cooper’s 5-6 blitz wreaked havoc and Kilmington dashed home in the third over.

Ilminster 4ths – newly-formed this season – travelled to Chard 3rds in Division 8S of the Somerset League and came away with a six-wicket win against their rivals.

The home side had Phill Tolley’s 86 to thank for their total of 175-8, as Josh Lamb took 4-30.

There was a boost for ‘the spirit of cricket’ in the match, as Ilminster lent their hosts a fielder to take them up to a full complement of 11 – not that it mattered once Curtis got into his stride!
