TAUNTON Quantock were outplayed by Paulton Vipers on Saturday, losing by a 30-goal margin.

Quantock anticipated a tough game against their second-placed opponents and, starting with just six players, struggling to find their flow.

Despite Mel Reynolds coming to the rescue and completing the team, Vipers led 18-9 after the first quarter.

Quantock struggled to break down Vipers’ defence and the Paulton team pulled further away (34-19).

There were some good passages of play from Quantock and fine shooting from Helen Lucas and Maisie Reynolds, but they still trailed 51-28.

Quantock battled until the final whistle but Vipers took the win.

Venus 47, Blackdown 49

BLACKDOWN made the short journey to Bridgwater, and just edged their hosts to take the win.

The first quarter saw Blackdown come out firing, with disciplined marking from all their players.

It was a tight quarter to start with, as both teams defended well, but Blackdown took a slight lead (11-9).

Blackdown came out stronger again in the second quarter, rebounds from Venus’ shots making their way down the court to the shooters (24-18).

In the third quarter, Blackdown’s attackers made it hard for Venus to intercept passes (36-30).

Venus finished well but the Taunton players gave their all to clinch it.
