Toolstation Western League

Bridgwater Town 2, Hengrove Athletic 1

TWO goals in three second half minutes were enough for Bridgwater Town to defeat Hengrove Athletic and climb into the top four of the Toolstation Western League Premier Division.

Sam Towler and Jake Brown netted for the Robins and, though Jack Goddard pulled one back, the hosts did enough to record the three points.

The first half was devoid of clear cut chances, with Craig Allan sending a couple of headers over and Tom Ellis heading wide as Town threatened from set pieces.

Robins goalkeeper James Annison was called into action on several occasions, saving from Craig Parsons and Jack Fillingham as the game reached half-time still goalless.

Bridgwater broke the deadlock on the hour when two of their former Wellington contingent combined, Jack Taylor crossing for Towler to head home from close range.

Within a matter of minutes the lead was doubled, as Brown latched on to Ian Bellinger's cross and fired past the Hengrove goalkeeper.

Town couldn't relax on their lead as Hengrove halved the deficit on 68 minutes, Fillingham beating Annison to the ball as the goalkeeper tried to shepherd it out before squaring for Goddard to tap home.

Annison then kept Town in front with a fine save from Parsons' long-range effort before Fillingham received his marching orders after a challenge on Jake Llewellyn.

Boosted by the numerical advantage, Town saw the game out comfortably enough to extend their unbeaten run to 12 matches.
