ALL roads lead to Pontispool Horse Trials this weekend where Zara Phillips and this year’s Badminton winner Jonathan Paget are among the stars in action.

The horse trials, which are sponsored by Griffin Nuumed, take place from Saturday May 25 to Monday May 27 and more than 800 entries have been received.

Zara saw a welcome return to form at Chatsworth recently where she finished third in the World Cup Qualifier on her London 2012 team silver medalist High Kingdom.

He’s entered in the Fitswim Open Intermediate where their opponents include New Zealander Jonathan Paget on Bullet Proof and Shady Grey.

As well as the region’s leading competitors, including Lucy Wiegersma, Helen West and Millie Dumas, there’s a strong international flavour with New Zealand’s Mark Todd, Italy’s Vittoria Panizzon, who was seventh at Badminton riding Borough Pennyz, and Australia’s Paul Tapner riding.

Up and coming rider Tom McEwen, who finished 19th at Badminton and was both the best British rider aged under 25 and the best newcomer at the four star event, is in action along side another promising rider, Charlotte Agnew who is supported by the lottery funded World Class Development programme.

Organiser Richard Mitford-Slade said: “We’ve had a terrific entry once again which is testament to the reputation of Pontispool. We are thrilled to have received such a high caliber number of entries and it’s a great opportunity for people to come along and watch both established stars, and those with a great future ahead of them, in action.”

Entry to the event is £5 per car which is donated to a local charity.

Cross country action gets underway on Saturday at 9.30am, on Sunday at 9.45am and on Monday at 10pm.

Intermediate action takes place on Monday with Zara Phillips and Jonathon Paget in action on the cross country course after 3pm.
