PLAYING fields in Sedgemoor have been ranked as some of the best in the county.
At a ceremony at Woolavington Village Hall on Thursday, the Somerset Playing Fields' Association announced the results of its field of the year competition.
There were two categories - one for smaller play areas with no formal sports pitches, and one for larger playing fields.
Mark Community Association scooped the winners' trophy, a certificate and cheque in the smaller fields section for its play area at Vole Road.
Woolavington Playing Fields Association was named runner-up for the Higher Road park, and Wembdon Parish Council's Church Road field came in third.
Stoke St Gregory Playing Field Committee claimed first prize in the larger playing field category with Aller coming second, and Cossington third.
Richard Young, secretary of the Somerset Playing Fields' Association, said: “The judges were very impressed with the standard of entries and the organisations must be congratulated on providing well maintained, top quality facilities for use by their communities.”
