ORGANISERS of Ilminster’s Party on the Park have been forced to cancel this year’s event.

The annual attraction was set to take place on Ilminster’s Recreation Ground at the end of the month - August 30 - but the people behind it have been forced to call the day off.

This is the second time in three years that the Party on the Park has not been held.

The 2018 event was unable to take place as a storm swept across the South West.

In a statement last week, the organisers of Ilminster’s Party on the Park said: “ We are disappointed to announce the cancellation of this year’s event.

“We met with the town clerk and chair of open spaces this week to discuss how we could make the event work given the current situation, but given the current government guidelines it has proved impossible to put the event on.

“We really want to hold Party on Park to give the local community groups an opportunity to raise much needed funds, and enable local musicians to showcase their skills.

“On a more positive note, we will be asking Ilminster Town Council for permission to hold Party on the Park on the recreation ground next year, on August 29.”

Last year’s event took place on August 25, and saw a return to form for the fun day.

Organisers boasted a record attendance, in scorching sunshine, with a programme featuring the most entertainment the show has seen.

There were 10 live bands and around 30 fundraising stalls.

It was the first outing for IlminsterPOP’s second music stage, and a baby tent which was due to return this year.

There were also summer fun and games for all the family.
