A HIGHBRIDGE woman said she has been ‘inundated’ with orders for her meal delivery service since the coronavirus outbreak.

Fiona Cawley, owner of Jemima’s Cakes & Catering, said she has been working flat out over the past few weeks to cook and deliver hundreds of freshly cooked meals to elderly and vulnerable people in Burnham-on-Sea, Highbridge and the surrounding areas.

The 57-year-old, who runs the business out of her home in Burnham Road, set up the delivery service less than a year ago and said she has had to take on four volunteers to keep up with a sharp increase in demand.

She said: “Since the coronavirus outbreak I have been inundated with requests for meals. It has been overwhelming.

“I am at full capacity, I did 50 meals on Sunday and haven’t stopped for the last two weeks.

“I am extremely grateful to everyone who has ordered and has given me such positive feedback, it makes it all worthwhile.

“In order to keep up with demand I have had take on four volunteers and they have been a great help to me.

“We all do non contact deliveries for my clients and one of the volunteers helps me to prepare meals in the kitchen, they have been fantastic with my clients and have been of great help to me.”

Fiona said she is shocked that an outbreak like has happened in her lifetime but she has been happy to see that the community has been pulling together to help people in need.

“It has been an extremely busy and uncertain time for everyone. I would never have expected this to happen in my life time,” Fiona said.

“I have been so impressed by the community’s response to this crisis.

“Residents have been really coming together to help one another, it has been lovely to see.

“I would really encourage everyone to stay safe and stay in their homes so we can protect everyone from coronavirus.”
